Overview

Grand Hotel is seeking an experienced sales professional to join our team as a Sales Manager, responsible for driving group room and banquet revenue within assigned Corporate and Association market segments.

The ideal candidate will have experience in hotel, resort, destination, or group sales and a strong ability to develop new business, manage existing accounts, and build lasting client relationships. This individual should be comfortable selling a premium destination experience, articulating Grand Hotel’s distinctive value, and converting opportunities while supporting the hotel’s rate and revenue objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Corporate and Association group sales for Grand Hotel, with accountability for achieving assigned group room night, room revenue, and banquet revenue goals.
  • Develops and converts new business within assigned market segments through consistent prospecting, relationship building, and account development.
  • Maintains a primary focus within the Corporate segment on the Incentive Travel Market, developing relationships and pursuing qualified incentive group opportunities.
  • Manages assigned Association accounts with a focus on retention, account growth, rate growth, and maximizing overall account value.
  • Prospects and develops new Michigan and national Association business, identifying opportunities that align with Grand Hotel’s need periods and revenue objectives.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with incentive houses, third-party meeting planners, corporate clients, association executives, and other key industry partners.
  • Positions and sells Grand Hotel as a premium destination experience, effectively communicating the value of the property while supporting rate integrity.
  • Generates profitable group business across guest rooms and banquet revenue through new business development and existing account management.
  • Evaluates opportunities based on dates, room block, rate, banquet spend, and overall revenue potential, working collaboratively with Revenue Management and hotel leadership as appropriate.
  • Manages the sales process from initial prospecting and qualification through proposal, negotiation, contracting, and turnover to the appropriate servicing team.
  • Meets or exceeds established sales goals and production targets, including room nights, room revenue, banquet revenue, and other assigned performance metrics.
  • Maintains an active sales pipeline, conducts consistent prospecting and account follow-up, and accurately tracks sales activity, account production, and future opportunities.
  • Conducts client presentations, site visits, property tours, and relationship-building activities both on-site and virtually.
  • Partners with Events, Revenue Management, Marketing, and hotel operations to ensure a seamless transition from sales to execution and identify opportunities for repeat and incremental business.
  • Represents Grand Hotel at industry trade shows, sales missions, networking events, and client appointments approximately 3–5 times per year, or as business needs require.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience in hotel, resort, destination, group, or hospitality sales.
    • Experience developing new business as well as managing and growing existing accounts.
    • Strong prospecting, relationship-building, negotiation, and closing skills.
    • Ability to effectively communicate and sell the value of a premium destination experience.
    • Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate opportunities based on rate, dates, room nights, banquet spend, and overall revenue potential.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with Revenue Management and other hotel disciplines to support sound business decisions.
    • Strong communication, presentation, organization, and follow-up skills.
    • Ability to independently manage assigned accounts, maintain an active sales pipeline, and achieve established revenue and production goals.
    • Ability to work independently in a primarily remote environment while remaining highly engaged and connected with the broader Grand Hotel team.
    • Experience with Corporate, Association, Incentive, luxury, or destination group sales is preferred.

    Location & Travel

    This position is primarily remote, with travel to Mackinac Island approximately 5–7 times during Grand Hotel’s six-month operating season, or as business needs require.

    Additional travel is expected for industry trade shows, sales missions, networking events, and client appointments approximately 3–5 times per year, or as business needs require.
