Overview

This is a year-round position on Mackinac Island, MI. Basic Housing provided. 

 

 

The Director of Safety (OHS) is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of strategies, policies, and programs that ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment. This role leads the organization’s efforts to prevent injuries and illnesses, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a culture of safety throughout all levels of the organization.

 

·  Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety programs in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. 

- Lead safety team including training, scheduling and supporting team response to incidents

·  Oversee safety committee and coordinate appropriate investigations and actions with department leaders.

·  Provide strategic leadership and guidance on safety initiatives, risk assessments, and injury prevention programs.

·  Ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards, and regulations; maintain documentation and reporting as required.

·  Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments of work environments, equipment, and practices.

·  Collaborate with HR, operations, and engineering on safety-related initiatives and return-to-work programs.

·  Oversee safety training programs; ensure team members and leadership are educated on workplace safety protocols.

·  Monitor workplace exposure to hazardous materials or environments and implement controls to minimize risks.

·  Lead emergency preparedness planning, including evacuation procedures and crisis response.

·  Prepare and manage the safety budget and resources.

·  Interface with government agencies, insurers, and regulatory bodies as requested.

Qualifications

·  10+ years of experience in safety roles

·  5+ years of leadership/management experience

·  Experience in regulatory compliance, audits, inspections, and incident investigations

·  Familiarity with industry-specific safety regulations

·  Knowledge of occupational safety laws and regulations

·  Risk assessment and hazard analysis

·  Incident investigation and root cause analysis

·  Policy and procedure development

·  Leadership, communication, and training

·  Data analysis and reporting

·  Strategic planning and budgeting
