Overview

Join our dynamic team as the Director of Events! We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead our event planning and execution. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, along with a passion for creating unforgettable experiences for our guests. As the Director of Events, you will have the opportunity to coordinate with various departments and collaborate with clients to deliver exceptional events. The Director of Events is responsible for coordinating catering sales by establishing markets, goals and advertising techniques; coordinating with the Director of Sales to ensure profitable bookings; manage pricing policy of the property, ensuring proper payments for services rendered; developing and maintaining solicitation responsibilities; reviewing catering contracts; selecting, training and developing Team Members.

Responsibilities

•Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics, which inspire employees to meet and exceed standards. Lead by example.
•Ensure compliance with leadership standards within catering team.
•Effectively supervise event sales team to reach budgeted goals.
•Effectively manage the event planning function of the department.
•Ensure all turn-overs are followed up within 24 hours via telephone and within 3 days with written correspondence.
•Respond to requests by Meeting Planners immediately.
•Increase overall revenue per attendee via aggressive upselling techniques, rooms management strategies, value added offerings and other creative methods
•Operate department within forecasted expenses.
•Promote employee empowerment. Motivate team.
•Provide distinctly supreme service to sales guests/clients.
•Direct BEO meetings.
•Review market analysis to determine strategy toward potential discount periods for revenue maximization.
•Review prospects and tentatives with team members to determine next step to move business forward.
•Assist DOS with establishing minimum guidelines to allow managers to close business quickly.
•Coach team members to overcome weaknesses.
•Attend all mandatory meetings.
•Develop and maintain solicitation responsibility for all catering accounts.
•Perform in the capacity of any position supervised.
•Relay guest feedback to other departments.
•Assist with completion of month-end sales reports.
•Select, train, schedule, supervise, develop, discipline and counsel employees according to Davidson policies and procedures.
•Conduct performance appraisals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years catering experience, hotels preferred
  • Highly developed business communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience with major Hospitality Sales CRM systems
  • Able to execute a Sales and Marketing Plan to enhance revenue
  • Creativity in designing events and menus in conjunction with the culinary department to maximize operating profit
  • Strong time management skills
  • Previous experience leading and directing a team
  • Confident and professional appearance
