Overview

The Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort, a Davidson Hospitality managed property,  is on the brink of an exciting transformation to become the Sunny Hotel!   We are currently undergoing renovations to become a vibrant, refreshed destination for guests. As part of our leadership team, the Chief Engineer will work with our Director of Engineering and  will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the transition is smooth and that our property maintains the highest standards of operation, safety, and efficiency.

 

The future Sunny in the heart of Sunny Isles Beach is poised to redefine the beach getaway experience offering a perfect blend of rich history and unparalleled amenities. The resort will feature 339 spacious guest rooms, an eclectic private art collection, six food and beverage outlets, a fitness center, spa & salon, ocean-front pool with tiki bar and fire pits, beach club, and over 22,000 square feet of event space, including a unique oceanfront terrace. 

 


We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Chief Engineer to lead our engineering team through this exciting renovation phase and beyond. The ideal candidate is not just a problem solver but a visionary who can manage the day-to-day maintenance while also preparing the hotel for the future. From managing our preventative maintenance program to overseeing safety regulations and energy efficiency, you’ll be at the helm of ensuring that The Sunny Hotel shines!

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all engineering and maintenance operations during the renovation process and after reopening.
  • Implement, monitor, and maintain effective preventative maintenance programs across the property.
  • Ensure all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) meet the highest operational standards during renovations.
  • Ensure compliance with all local and national safety regulations, including fire codes, emergency procedures, and building codes.
  • Lead, train, and motivate the engineering team to achieve optimal performance and teamwork.
  • Develop and manage the department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources without compromising quality.
  • Analyze and improve energy efficiency across the property, with a focus on sustainability and reducing the hotel's carbon footprint.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and team members, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or in a senior engineering role within the hospitality industry.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent project management skills, especially in overseeing large-scale renovations or construction.
  • Hands-on leadership style, with the ability to train and inspire a team.
  • Familiarity with energy-saving technologies and sustainability practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
